5 and a half weeks and counting

This pregnancy, early as it is, is kicking my butt.  I feel like Bella looked during most of the last Twilight movie.  I would also liken it to when I had mono as a kid where I was in bed for 2 weeks straight.  I have this debilitating fatigue.  I am taking 2-3 hour naps during the day, and still feel like I could just sleep the whole day away.  Also, I gagged on a piece of halibut the other night, and since then I have been constantly icky feeling.  Needless to say, I don't think I'll have another piece of fish until after the baby is born.  Oh, and the smell of broccoli made me queasy the same night of the fish incident.  So, horrible as it is, I went to st.eak. and sh.ake and got a cheeseburger, fries, and milkshake.  None of that is on the anti-inflammatory diet, but I guess that has to go out the window so I can get some kind of food down.

I could probably deal with the food issues if I just had energy.  But, I don't even dare have any caffeine.  No way.  Not jeopardizing this pregnancy one bit.

So for now, I guess I will continue moving around in a daze and eating the junk food from my childhood.  I feel awful feeling bad about the fatigue, knowing how much I have wanted this baby for so long, and how much we have sacrificed for this.  And, I would not trade this pregnancy at all for feeling good.  But, I am a wimp.  As much as I like to think how strong I am, I am truly a big ol' wimp.  Offering this all up for you, prayer buddy.  :)

  1. Don't feel bad about it...I was the exact same way! I went through about 2 weeks where I think all I ate was spaghettios and pizza rolls. There's no rhyme or reason to what will or won't make you queasy, so just eat what you can, when you can.

To be honest, the first trimester fatigue was (for me anyway) the most difficult part. Everything after that has been easy peasy! Everyone is different, but by about 16 weeks I started getting more energy. Even now at 33 weeks I have way more energy than I did that first tri.

  2. Congrats...it sounds like the pregnancy is going well:-) I was utterly fatigued 1st trimester as well and took a nap every chance I got. Relax and listen to your body...it is hard work making a baby. Try to rest and let your body do the hard work. Hang in there...I hit 12 or 13 weeks and the fatigue went away overnight. I agree with Hebrews...I'm almost 35 weeks and still feel way better energy wise than I did 1st tri. And eat whatever you can keep down. I tried to stick with my gluten, dairy, egg-free diet and eventually threw that out the window for fast food (I ate 10 beef and cheddars one week alone!). Sometimes your body tells you what it needs to eat during 1st tri.

  3. I am so happy for you. Take as many naps as you want. You won't get to do that once the baby is here :)

  4. As my DH says on occasion "I have never had a nap I didn't like!" I have come to feel the same way! So nap away when you can! I am so excited for you, grow, baby, grow!

  6. Enjoy your non-anti-inflammation diet food! It will help the baby to grow. :-)

  7. SO HIGH-LARIOUS! I'm so sorry you're feeling ill, cuz I know it sux, but I've never been so happy for someone feeling so poorly!! :)
Yes, I live on french fries and sugary-sweet breakfast cereals--Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cap'n Crunch, Cocoa Puffs, etc. Those were the highlights of my childhood cuisine. (I don't know how I'm not morbidly obese considering the statistics...)
With my first, nectarines, watermelon, and cucumber helped a lot. They were yummy, could hold them down, and were healthy. Also, try ginger beer, like root beer. I could take that better than tea. Something about it being cold and bubbly helped. You could find it at a health food store I bet. I got it at the Farmer's Market. xoxo.
