My Pesky Thyroid

Well, it seems that the more I want to be normal, the more whacked out my body gets.  I have been on T3 since last May because apparently I have Thyroid System Dysfunction.  Last week, I had to have blood drawn to check the thyroid numbers again, and now it turns out my T4 is low.  So, I am continuing T3 and am going to start Synthroid.  Good grief.  This is all so strange to me.  I have never known anyone in my family to have a thyroid problem, and now apparently, I am riddled with them.  I am kind of nervous that taking T3 is causing me problems.  I mean, it is hard to believe that I have a problem with an organ that I don't even know what it does and can't see it.  And, I've lived most of my life not knowing I had a problem.  I guess I need to just let it go and continue to trust Dr. H and God.  But, I tell you what, I am tired of "popping pills."  Is anyone else out there taking Synthroid, or has taken it in the past?  Is this going to be something I will have to be on forever, or will the problem correct itself within a few months?

  1. Hmm... I know two people who take Synthroid and it's because their thyroid works too slowly, or whatever, and they are taking it long term. You obviously don't have that problem.

  3. In 2010, after I completed my thorough hormone testing, my NaPro doctor said my T3/T4 ratio was low or high (I guess just not "normal") and gave me a big list of questions about everything under the sun to see if I had the so-called Wilson's Syndrome. I don't see how any human could answer those questions and not relate in some way. However, Wilson's Syndrome is a fallacy and not supported by the American Thyroid Assoc. To my doctor's credit, she did tell inform me of this fact.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with my thyroid and I suspect many other NaPro infertility patients and I don't understand why NaPro keeps pushing it. Obviously trust your doctor but do a little research on your own. I wouldn't assume you have thyroid problems.

  5. I'm on Synthroid / but really its generic: Levothyroxine. I forget why, as I take so many pills, but its to help my thyroid numbers, b/c if I remember correctly, my thyroid can't keep up. My left half of the thyroid was removed in Jan of last year and up until a few months ago, I functioned "fine" (I didn't notice anything) without it. I don't notice any side effects, but I don't think I'll be able to stop taking it. I'm not sure about your situation and not taking it. I hope you can just take it temporarily. I know Dr. H is on top of things ... and I pray that this is all worth it someday SOON!!!!!
I hear ya ... I'm tired of popping so many freakin' pills!!!
